As of May 2021, Muc-Off has saved over 61 tonnes of plastic – and they aren’t going to stop there. They’re currently figuring out a new, bigger and better target to make themselves greener than ever, to protect their playground for future shredders. Muc-Off aims to be completely transparent by not only outlining what they are doing well, but also what they could do better, and how they plan to get there.

Muc-Off’s Mission
Muc-Off’s mission has always been continuous improvement for everything they create. They love the planet they ride on and are driven to protect it for future riders! They’ve always believed in making their products as sustainable and kind to the planet as possible with an ongoing commitment to always improve. They created Project Green as a focus which will never be finished and a commitment to deliver a multitude of improvements across their business. A simple focus to protect the playground they ride in.
Sustainability built-in
Things have gotten real. People worldwide have seen the floods, fires and extinctions. The documentaries, the stats and the stories. There’s only one planet and Muc-Off is committed to finding ways to protect it while they can and preserve it for future generations. Muc-Off believes that there’s no more time for talk, only action.

At Muc-Off, doing the right thing by Mother Earth means doing more. Muc-Off have always loved the world they ride in and always done their bit to protect it, but ‘a bit’ is no longer enough. From plastics to PTFE, packaging to partnerships, they’re doubling down, getting greener, now and forever.
Muc-Off call it Project Green. It’s all about ‘sustainability built in’. Responsibility as standard. Commitment? Non-negotiable! It’s more than just a strapline, it’s a way of thinking and most importantly, doing. And it certainly ain’t about ticking boxes. Muc-Off have put the Earth front and centre of their operations – just as it should be.
Examples? In 2019, they pledged to save 30 tonnes of plastic by 2023 and, in April 2021, they had already saved an epic 61 tonnes. Ten years ago, they launched in-store refill stations. Take-up was slow, but now they’re booming. Times are changing as the clock counts down. People are getting wise.
Innovation is their DNA: the relentless pursuit of progress. It’s how they develop chain lubricants to win Olympic titles and the Tour de France. For Project Green, Muc-Off is going even bigger. How do they optimise every process, every product, every package to reduce their footprint? Marginal gains for the planet.
Plastic is a fact of life and Muc-Off focus on the question of how to minimise its impact? Scrap single usage. Source better qualities. Minimise unsustainable packaging and processes. Harmful chemicals? Remove PTFE from every formula. Make flagship products like MO-94 biodegradable. Build a new lab. Invest in cutting-edge equipment. Hire PhD-certified chemists. Keep improving.
They’re reaching out and throwing their weight behind groups like 1% for the Planet and Trash Free Trails. As one of the most recognisable brands in the game, they’ve got a voice, and they’re not afraid to shout loudly on behalf of those they know are doing the right thing.

Most of all, they need the Muc-Off collective alongside them: Customers and dealers, suppliers and wholesalers. Roadies and trail hounds. Adrenaline addicts and athletes. IBDs and industry big dogs. Project Green is an open invitation to every supplier, every retailer, and every cyclist who chooses Muc-Off to enhance their ride.
Project Green is about education, not preaching. It’s about Muc-Off sharing lessons from their lab, through products for real-world riders. It’s about getting their dealers and suppliers as hyped as they are on the possibilities of green tech and clean innovation. Most of all, it’s about recognising that sustainability means forever, as no environmental program should ever have an end goal.
